Fresh Fishing The Carp - DVD
Fresh Fishing The Carp - DVD

Britain's anglers may need to re-think their riverbank tactics after an underwater cameraman demonstrated that it's impossible to hide from a carp.
Basic science tells us that a fish has all-round vision both under and above the water, and thanks to a light refraction effect called 'Snell's Window', it can see what's happening on the river bank or lakeside, right down to the floor. But most fishermen don't realise this, and some go to great lengths to "hide" from the fish they're stalking.

Now for the first time, an underwater cameraman has filmed an angler from a carp's point of view - and proved conclusively that you can fish, but you can't hide.

This new-style DVD for anglers by award winning TV natural history film-maker Moira Mann features one of the UK's top anglers, Bryan Jarrett. Bryan fishes for carp on a lake in the Cotswolds, while underwater cameraman John McIntyre filmed him from the carp's point of view.

To Bryan's astonishment, the film showed him quite clearly, lying low and back from the bank. "Oh my God!" Bryan is recorded gasping. "You can see practically everything, down to my feet!"
Bryan, twice winner of the British Carp Angling Championship (BCAC) and a National Federation of Anglers (NFA) team member for England, is now rethinking his technique after 30 years.Moira says: "Other anglers who see the DVD will probably think likewise. There is no hope that a carp won't see someone on the river's edge."

John McIntyre, who did the carp's-eye view filming, is also the presenter. He's a former BBC journalist who teamed up with Moira because of their mutual interest in sharks.Moira is known as "Shark Woman" for her award-winning shark documentaries for the BBC and others.
