The KG1 Strikes Again!

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Here’s a catch report from customer Nathan “I braved the weather saturday night and thankfully the Carp behaved and only picked up the hookbait when the rain stopped! I caught a lovely mirror of 15lb mirror and 13.5 common both were caught on Sufix Heavy Skin  and size 10 mugga hooks fished on a blowback rig. I baited with  KG-1 Freezer Boilies again over matching KG1 pellets and hemp” Well done Nathan hopefully we’ll get some photo’s soon.

The Carp Are Waking Up!

Friday, March 14th, 2008

The first thing to greet me this morning at 6.00am was the dawn chorus. Hearing the birds singing just before dawn is always a sign to me that the Carp are waking up and fills me with tremendous excitement. When the Carp immerge from their winter slumber they are hungry and can be relatively easy to catch. Now is the time to start increasing your baiting levels and start to get those boilies going in. This will hopefully get you more bites and set your season off to a flying start.

 Best Fishes,

John

Carp Rods And Test Curves

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

For those thinking of buying new Carp Rods in the near future an understanding of test curves may be of help. Carp Rods normally have test curves of 2.5lb, 2.75lb, 3lb, 3.5lb there are others but these are the most common. So if a Carp Rod has a test curve of 3lb what does this mean? The test curve, in this instance 3lb, is the amount of weight needed to bend the Rod tip round to a 90 degree angle whilst the Rod is being held horizontally. The test curve of the Rod is usually used as a measure of stiffness of the Rod Blank and consequently its’ casting capabilities. As a basic starting point the stiffer the Rod the further it should cast. There are other things to take into account though before splashing out on those lovely new Carp Rods. The first thing to consider is your casting ability and also your ability to compress a Rod to its’ fullest extent. When a Carp Rod is fully compressed on a cast it is at its’ maximum backward arc and allows the furthest distance to be obtained. So if you can’t fully compress rods of 2.5lb test curve then it’s pointless buying rods with a 3lb rating. The other important point to consider is the Action of your new Carp Rod and I will explain its’ importance in a future blog. I hope this has been of some help to those of you new to Carp Fishing.

John

Its Not Just About The Carp-2

Monday, March 10th, 2008

What a beautiful winter sunset. The photo is courtesy of customer Ben and it reminds me that its not just about the Carp. Carp fishing is one of those wonderful outdoor pursuits that allows you to look around and savour all of natures wonderful sights, sounds and smells. The last session that I did, a sparrow hawk landed on my barrow and had me spellbound as I’d never seen one that close in the wild before. So remember to keep your eyes peeled not just for the Carp but also for all the other sights and sounds that make a session more memorable.

Keep em peeled

John
