As well as the usual Hangers and Swingers there are other indicator setups available. The Majority of these setups have more specific uses like the Solar Quiverloc or the Matrix Kompressor are designed for long range fishing where tension on the line from the indicator is required. You could also fit the Matrix add-on weights or the Solar Drag Weights which come in 3 different sizes to your original setup for long range fishing but the Solar Quiverloc and Matrix Kompressor indicators are designed to help with bite indication at long range.

Swingers like the Solar Fluoro Butt Bangers and the Matrix Sweepers as with hangers are another popular option for indicator setups, they work in the same way that hangers do except they are attached to your buzz bars via a solid arm instead of a chain or cord. This helps eliminate your indicators swinging in strong winds and giving you false indications. Again with the swingers there are a range of different bodies available as well as the option for add-on weights to help suit the angling situation. You will find it is possible to use the same indicator bodies and buzz bar attachments/hockey sticks and just swop the chains for a swinger arms.

We now have the new Nash Slaphead Bite Indicators/Bobbins in stock. There are four different size heads in the range, with a fifth on the way, so there should be one to suit most carp anglers. The Nash Slapheads have an intergrated, self tensioning line gate with a smooth round head ensuring snag free operation and an end to line clip tangles. They are manufactured in a very carpy PTFE and look the buisness. The bobbins, chains, brackets etc. are all sold separately so you can make up a system to suit your fishing. Indicators are widely used by a lot of anglers and over the years they have acquired a range of names such as hangers, bobbins and swingers amongst others. An indicator is usually clipped onto the line in front of the alarm while the rod is sitting on the buzzer bars/banksticks/rod pod. It provides a visual indication as to what is happening with the baited rig. They could drop to the floor if the fish picks up the rig and swims towards you or they could rise up to the rod as the fish swims away but either way it provides the anglers with more than just a screaming alarm.

In modern carp fishing there are a wide range of indicators available to carp anglers. A lot of carp anglers make their choice of indicators purely from a image point of view. With so many indicators available on todays market and so many ways to customise them it appears to be one thing anglers can alter to personalise theirs from anyone elses.

Now all this isn’t a bad thing but what a lot of anglers don’t realise is that indicators play an important role in bite indication. Having the right setup for a given fishing situation could improve your chances of banking a fish or two. 

Hangers such as the Matrix Hot Head Hangers and the Solar Fluoro Indicator System are what I would consider to be the most popular and all round best indicator for the majority of fishing situations. My reasoning for this is due to the adaptability these give you when on the bank. There are a range of bodies available, both lightweight such as the Muddy Waters Old Skool Bobbins and heavyweight bodies, Matrix and Solar also do a varied range of bodies. Add-On weights are also available to suit your fishing situation from short to long range fishing.

The Matrix Sweeper Bite Indicators and Stage Stands have come in along with some other cool bits and pieces as promised in an earlier blog. If you’re fed up with your bite alarms bleeping all the time in windy conditions then the new Matrix Sweepers are well worth a look and come in a real nice colours.
