I had another good session recently banking 4 fish, 3 of which were 20lb+ including this immaculate 28lb Common. The fish fell to my standard Blowback Rig set up consisting of a Korda Wide Gape Hook, Korda Weed Green Shrink Tube and Atomic Jel-E-Wyre hooklink with an Armaled Locjaw Safety Leadclip, 3oz Korda Pear Swivel Lead and 3 ft of ESP Leadcore. The hookbait was a 20mm snowman presentation topped with a 14mm Solar Fluoro Pineapple pop-up. The fish were all landed with the aid of the new Korda Subline.

Zig rigs or Zigs as they are more commonly called can be a very effective method of angling when the carp are up in the water and not interested in feeding on the bottom. Here is a Zig caught 25lb14oz mirror from last week that was caught 2ft under the surface in 12ft of water on a hot day when the carp could be seen sitting under the surface soaking up a bit of sunshine. The fish was caught using Drennan Super Specialist Barbel Hooks and a small artificial bait.

Sad news this time there has been a large fish kill at Frimly Pit 2. The losses are thought to have been due to deoxygenation as a result of ice. Fish of all species including roach, bream and carp have fallen foul of the terrible weather conditions. I myself lost two prized Koi Carp that have been with be for at least 20 years due to this global warming.

Anglers in the Colne Valley are worried about the governments plans for a new high speed rail link between London and Birmingham. The powers that be seem intent on pushing the plans through despite the downturn in the economic climate and swingeing cuts in public spending. One of the proposed routes would cut through the historic Savay Lake with towering aquaduct type tracks. This is bad news for all carp anglers as the Colne Valley is home to a lot of carp waters that form part of the history of our sport. The autumn period has to be one of my favourite times of year for fishing. The leaves are falling off the trees, a lot of anglers start to stay at home due to colder conditions and the fish get on the munch before the impending winter, as this recent capture of mine proves during a session on one of my syndicates. Its a fish known as the “Dumpy Mirror” and weighed in at 34lb exactly. The fish fell to a corkball pop up fished on a Chod Rig consisting of an ESP Stiff Rigger Hook, Gardner Tripwire and 9 ft of ESP Original Camo Leadcore.

Regular Carp Catchers Blog contributer Sean has had a new PB here’s his report. Hi John, just got back from a 24hr session on pit 6 and had my first mirror from there, and new U.K. PB to boot. Fish was 25lbs on the nose and fell to 2 pieces of Enterprise Pop-Up Sweetcorn tied Blow Back style to a size 10 Gardner Longshank Incizor  and 15lb jelly wire. Well done Sean, keep them coming.

Heres a nice common carp weighing in at 26lb 8oz. The fish fell to a snowman hookbait with a Solar Juicy Pineapple Fluoro pop-up topping the combination. I have had a lot of success this year using snowmans with bright fluoro pop-ups.  The rig was my usual Blowback Rig consisting of  Atomic Jel-E-Wyre  hooklink material and a Korda Wide Gape Hook in conjunction with a 3oz pear lead, ESP Bulk Spool Leadcore  in Original Camo and an Armaled Lead Clip.
