Autumn Chunk On The XXX

Thursday, November 15th, 2012

I’ve just returned from 2 nights on Manor Farm at Richworth Linear Fisheries. I fished 3 solid bags on the same spot no more that 6 feet apart with 10mm CC Moore Odyssey XXX pop ups topped with Avid Carp Sight Stops and baited up with a bucket of hemp, 10mm CC Moore Odyssey XXX boilies, caster, maggot, pellet and a few other goodies using a Spomb. The fish started showing over the spot late afternoon and into the night. I had a chunky 31lb 15oz mirror just before midnight which was followed by a pristine 20lb 14oz common just before first light. The following evening I was plagued by ducks and struggled keeping all 3 rods tight on a spot before darkness fell. That night the conditions completely changed, the fish activity was a lot quieter and no more runs materialised but I was happy with the fish from the previous night.

Elsons Cracker

Saturday, June 30th, 2012

I did another overnighter recently at Elsons on the Stanwick Lakes Fisheries and had a result in the form of 5 fish. I turned up to find the lakes quieter than expected due to the bad weather and after a quick walk round I had found a few fish and decided to setup in the nearest swim. Three hinged stiff rigs with CC Moore Odyssey xxx corkball pop ups were soon cast out towards the showing fish followed by a light spread of Odyssey xxx freezer baits. I didn’t have to wait long for the first take which resulted in a 16lb 4oz Common, shortly after I landed a stunning 21lb 8oz Mirror which was the result of reeling in a rod and casting a single at the group of showing fish in the next swim. Through the night I had a further 2 takes including a 20lb 8oz Common and finished up with a 16lb 12oz Common and a 6lb Tench just before packing up.

Hows your spring fishing going? Send us any photos and catch reports to carp@carpcatchers.biz and we will add them to the blog and our facebook page.

Elsons Thirty

Sunday, June 10th, 2012

I recently did a quick overnighter on Elsons Lake at the Stanwick Lakes Fisheries. I set up on the toilet bank after finding the bulk of the fish and set about getting some baits in the water with everything set it was time to sit back and take in the atmosphere of this historic water. About 11.30pm I had a take on the right hand rod which resulted in a 15 minute fight out in the lake. I caught a glimpse of the fish 5 minutes in so had a good idea of what I was connected to. The fish was soon in the net after a few tense moments, it was Swanny, one of the lakes larger residents. Although down in weight at 31lb 4oz I was over the moon, the weight is irrelevant as I’ve always wanted to land this fish since the first day I saw the photos. The fish was followed up by 2 more on the right hand rod weighing 17lb 4oz and 21lb 10oz, both of which were commons. All the fish were landed using CC Moore Odyssey XXX freezer baits and corkball pop ups on hinged stiff rigs, incorporating GLT Green Stiffy booms, ESP Uni Link Swivels, Gardner Trip Wire and ESP Stiff Rigger Hooks.

Bluebell Lake’s Sandmartin Thirty

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

After 2 years, regular customer Simon Hogan, finally bagged the one he was after from Bluebell Lake’s Sandmartin in the shape of this long 32lb 8oz Common. Just look at the tail on it, I bet that fought like a demon!

Good angling Simon.

Oxlease Thirty

Saturday, September 3rd, 2011

I made another trip down to Richworth Linear Fisheries recently and had another good result. I landed 12 fish during my session the biggest being a 30lb 4oz Mirror. All the fish fell to either critically balanced tiger nut or boilie hookbaits with Avid Carp Sight Stops fished at 85 yards to the island over a spodded area of hemp, corn, chops, maggots, pellets and crushed tigers. Baits were presented in Extra Small Korda Solidz PVA Bags using 2.5oz Avid Carp Inline Groove Leads and short hooklinks.

Haulin!!!

Sunday, May 29th, 2011

Regular customer Sean Bowen sent in this catch report.

Hi all,
hope you all well, just got back from a 3 night session on Welham Lake, my first session in the UK since last September. Pre-baited a spot a few days prior and was lucky enough to get back on it, which resulted in 17 carp being banked with a mixture of commons and mirrors, two of which where 20′s.
All fish where taken on T1′s and rigs used where claw style made up of ESP Big T’s size 7, tied to 15lb Jelly Wire and Korda Supernatural Braid.
Back over to France next week to fish the river Gav with my mate so will see you soon.
Sean.

Nice fish, well done Sean.

Update – Farlows Lake

Saturday, April 16th, 2011

An update now on the campaign to save Farlows Lake from being turned into a marina. I have been informed by the bailiffs that the marina proposals have been turned down by the council. Great news! However the owner is planning to resubmit the proposal, so we will have to keep an eye out for the future. Thank you to all those who emailed in support of the campaign.

Best Fishes,

John
