Guru Pellet Feeder – How To

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

The Guru Pellet Feeder is an innovative design that protects the softened pellet loaded into the feeder during the cast and on impact with the water but allows the loose pellet and hookbait to come free of the feeder once on the lakebed. Here is a step by step guide of how to load the feeder.

Step 1.

Take some standard off the shelf pellets, such as, Trout or Halibut pellets and cover them in boiling water for a couple of minutes before draining the water off.

Check the pellet is sufficiently softened, if not repeat the process with boiling water until they are the right consistency.

For the purpose of this demonstration I only prepared enough pellet for one feeder. If you are planning a day session I would suggest you prepare as much as you think you may need.

Step 2.

Attach the feeder to your mainline, followed by a rig and your choosen bait. I would suggest something that matches the pellet in the feeder.

Step 3.

Partly fill the feeder with the scaulded pellet.

Step 4.

Then place the hookbait in the feeder like so.

Step 5.

Now top up the feeder and compress slightly. Make sure not to compress the pellets too much though, as you want them to loosen and release the hookbait once on the lake bed.

Your feeder is now loaded and ready to cast out.

The feeder will land on the lakebed with the pellet still intact.

But after a minute or so and a gentle pull back of the feeder from the rod it will release the pellet and your hookbait.

This type of presentation is perfect for any waters where weed is present or you are fishing in a greater depth than normal. Although it will work perfectly on all waters.

Give it a go.

Dave

Solid Bags Do It Again!

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

After another weekend session on my Nene Valley syndicate I managed to bank 2 carp to 24lb. The fish were landed using Korda Solidz PVA Bags filled with PVA friendly hemp, which was made by drying off some Dynamite Baits Frenzied Hempseed and adding a generous amount of Mainline Hemp Oil and leaving it to soak in for atleast an hour. Dynamite Baits Frenzied Monster Tiger Nuts where critically balanced and used as hookbaits with Avid Carp Sight Stops for added visual attraction.

Atomic Tackle Choppa Droppa Rig

Monday, December 13th, 2010

The Atomic Tackle Choppa Droppa is a safety helicopter lead system, offering a setup that can be fished in or around weed that will allow the lead to drop should it become snagged.

Atomic_Choppa_Droppa1

In this demonstration I used the Atomic Tackle Choppa Droppa Ready Rigs but Atomic do sell a Choppa Droppa Kit which enables you to use your own choice of leadcore or leader.

Step 1.

Pull the micro bore bead off the small leadcore link, then thread on your lead followed by the micro bore bead onto the small leadcore link.

Step 2.

Using a baiting needle pull the leadcore link through the Choppa Droppa clip.

Step 3.

Now tear a small piece off a PVA nugget and roll it between your fingers.

Step 4.

Push the PVA stop into the loop at the end of the small leadcore link and pull it tight against the clip. Attach a rig and the setup is now ready to cast out.

One For Me

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Here’s a dumpy carp that I caught recently. It weighed 30lb 8oz and fell to my usual old skool D Rig tied with GLT No Can See Fluorocarbon  to a size 6 Gardner Longshank Incizor . I fished a clear spot in weed at about 60yrds and scattered a kilo of Mainline Activ-8 boilies over the spot.

New Products – Solar Weed Effect leaders, Hooklink & Leads Plus ESP Chod Rigs

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

We now have the Solar Weed Effect Range in stock. First up we have The Solar Weed Effect Hooklink which looks and feels like weed. The Weed Effect Hooklink is tied with a size 6 Longshank Hook, but has a unique system which makes hooks interchangable, so any size or pattern of hook can be used. The soft feel anti tangle fibres will absorb dips and flavours or lake bed odours for either increased attraction or concealment. For more information or to purchase please click on the above link. The Solar Weed Effect Leadcore Leader has the same realistic soft touch anti tangle weed effect fibres and comes in 35lb B.S. 1 metre lengths with spliced loops at each end. The Solar Weed Effect Leads have colour coded tags attached to the swivel to differentiate between sizes and feature the same fibres as the above products. For more information or to purchase please click on the above links.

A lot of carp anglers struggle to tie chod rigs, so ESP have done something about it. The ESP Chod Rigs are tied with ESP Stiff Rigger Hooks, Bristle Filament and a smooth Japanese Uni Link Ring Swivel. These look really well tied and uniform guys and you get three in a pack at a decent price. To check them out or to buy please click on the above link.

Fully Scaled For Rob

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

Customer Rob O’Brien continues his roll with this gorgeous fully scaled mirror. Weighing 22lb 4oz (weight doesn’t really matter when they’re as stunning as this) Robs mirror was caught from a spot he’s been pre-baiting. The rig Rob used was unchanged, tied KD style with 25lb Atomic Jel-E-Wyre  to a size 8 Korda Wide Gape Hook. Because of the weed Rob dropped the lead on the take using a Korda Hybrid Lead Clip Leader. Keep this roll going Rob, I want to see more of these stunning carp.

Carp Fishing – Guru Micro Lead Clips

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

The Guru Micro Lead Clips provide a fish safe anti tangle option for the Match/Pleasure angler thats suitable for fishing with either leads or feeders. The design of Guru Micro Lead Clip  ensures that your lead or feeder can be released should it become snagged.

Guru Micro Lead Clips

The leads I used for the purpose of this demonstration were the Guru Square Leads.

Step 1.

Thread your mainline through the tail rubber and then the lead clip.

Guru_Micro_Lead_Clip3

Step 2.

Double over the tag end of your mainline and pass the loop through the eye of the size 11 swivel provided.

Guru_Micro_Lead_Clip4

Step 3.

Now tie an overhand knot with the doubled over section of your mainline but don’t tighten it yet.

Guru_Micro_Lead_Clip5

Step 4.

Pass the swivel through the loop created by the overhand knot.

Guru_Micro_Lead_Clip6

Step 5.

Now moisten the knot and gently tighten it down.

Guru_Micro_Lead_Clip7

Step 6.

Pull the lead clip down over the swivel until you hear it click into the clip.

Guru_Micro_Lead_Clip8

Step 7.

Now clip your lead/feeder on and slide the tail rubber over the lead clip so the angled edge sits the right way on the clip.

Guru_Micro_Lead_Clip

All you need to do now is tie on your rig and your ready to cast out. But before doing so make sure the clip is working correctly and the lead will discharge easily. You are now fishing a carp safe set up.

Another One For Me

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Here’s a nice 35lb 2oz mirror carp I had recently. It led me a right dance as it got into a massive weed bed and even though the lead had dropped on the take I had to go out in the boat to free it. It was well hooked though and it was never going to come off. I used half a kilo of scattered 18mm Mainline Activ-8  boilies as bait and the hookbait was a snowman with a 10mm Mainline Hi Visual  Milky Toffee pop up. The rig was tied D rig style with a size 6 Gardner Longshank Incizor  hook  and a 30lb GLT No Can See Fluorocarbon Hooklink .
