Carp Fishing – Guru Micro Lead Clips

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

The Guru Micro Lead Clips provide a fish safe anti tangle option for the Match/Pleasure angler thats suitable for fishing with either leads or feeders. The design of Guru Micro Lead Clip  ensures that your lead or feeder can be released should it become snagged.

Guru Micro Lead Clips

The leads I used for the purpose of this demonstration were the Guru Square Leads.

Step 1.

Thread your mainline through the tail rubber and then the lead clip.

Step 2.

Double over the tag end of your mainline and pass the loop through the eye of the size 11 swivel provided.

Step 3.

Now tie an overhand knot with the doubled over section of your mainline but don’t tighten it yet.

Step 4.

Pass the swivel through the loop created by the overhand knot.

Step 5.

Now moisten the knot and gently tighten it down.

Step 6.

Pull the lead clip down over the swivel until you hear it click into the clip.

Step 7.

Now clip your lead/feeder on and slide the tail rubber over the lead clip so the angled edge sits the right way on the clip.

All you need to do now is tie on your rig and your ready to cast out. But before doing so make sure the clip is working correctly and the lead will discharge easily. You are now fishing a carp safe set up.

Another One For Me

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Here’s a nice 35lb 2oz mirror carp I had recently. It led me a right dance as it got into a massive weed bed and even though the lead had dropped on the take I had to go out in the boat to free it. It was well hooked though and it was never going to come off. I used half a kilo of scattered 18mm Mainline Activ-8  boilies as bait and the hookbait was a snowman with a 10mm Mainline Hi Visual  Milky Toffee pop up. The rig was tied D rig style with a size 6 Gardner Longshank Incizor  hook  and a 30lb GLT No Can See Fluorocarbon Hooklink .

How To Set Up The MCF Dumper Lead Clip

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

The  MCF Dumper Lead Clip  is a very clever and innovative lead clip that is guaranteed to drop the lead in the event of a fish snagging or weeding you up. The tapered sleeves incorporated in this lead clip system help to minimise tangles. This Carp Catchers Blog will show you step by step how to set it up.

MCF_Dumper_Lead_Clip1

These can be set-up with any form of leader or tubing but for the purpose of this demonstration I used a ready spliced leadcore leader.

Step 1.

Using a bait needle thread the small rubber sleeve onto your leader or tubing.

MCF_Dumper_Lead_Clip2

Step 2.

Now you need to pass your spliced leader loop through the metal loop on the lead clip. Or tie on your mainline with your rig tubing already threaded on (Miss steps 3 and 4).

MCF_Dumper_Lead_Clip3

Step 3.

Then pass the lead clip through the loop in the end of your leader.

MCF_Dumper_Lead_Clip4

Step 4.

Pull the leader to secure the loop around the metal loop.

MCF_Dumper_Lead_Clip5

Step 5.

Push the small rubber sleeve over the metal loop.

MCF_Dumper_Lead_Clip6

Step 6.

Now push a baiting needle through the longer sleeve from next to the metal hook out of the tapered end and latch the baiting needle onto your choosen rig.

MCF_Dumper_Lead_Clip7

Step 7.

Once you’ve pulled your hooklink through loop it over the metal hook.

MCF_Dumper_Lead_Clip9

Step 8.

To finish the setup pull the hooklink tight and clip on a lead.

MCF_Dumper_Lead_Clip

The lead should not eject on a normal force cast, however if a distance cast is required I would suggest securing the lead in place with PVA tape.

If you are using rig tubing then adapt the instructions accordingly.

Two For Me

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Here’s a couple of nice mirror carp I had on a recent session. They weighed 19lb and 23lb 2oz respectively and were tempted from holes in the weed by Mainline Activ-8 boilies. I used a D Rig tied with 30lb GLT No Can See Fluorocarbon  and a size 6 Gardner Longshank Incizor  hook. I was able to land both fish from the bank in what is an extremely weedy swim by dropping the lead on the take using PVA’d Ace Lead Clips .

The Common Touch For James

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

James Kirk really had the common touch recently with this stunning 34lb common carp, just look at the tail on it. Fishing to the back of a weed bed at 35yrds range James used a critically balanced tiger nut hookbait with a mesh bag of  TFG PVA Friendly Tiger Nuts . James’ rig was tied with a size 4 Atomic Claw Hooks  to an ESP Striptease Hooklink . Well Done James, a real stunner!!

Ian’s Been At It Again!

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

On a recent trip to Bluebell lakes, regular customer Ian Smith banked 4 carp from Sandmartin during a weekend session. Ian fished over silkweed in front of a thick weedbed at 70 yards to catch his fish. Using a mix of Sticky Baits Bloodworm Boilies and Dynamite Spicy Tuna and Sweet Chilli Boilies with Sticky Baits Bloodworm Pellets.  The setups Ian used were 4oz leads on  Nash Weed Safety  Leadclips with rigs consisting of Nash Triggalink to 50lb Korda Armourbraid with a size 6 Nash Fang Uni Hook and Sufix Camo Skin with a size 6  Gardner Mugga  Hook. The carp Ian landed weighed in at 14lb, 17lb 4oz, 25lb 14oz and 27lb 12oz. Well done again mate.

Successful Weed Fishing

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

For those of you carp fishing particularly weedy waters this year dropping your lead is probably a very high priority. Regular customer Ian Smith showed me a weed lead clip system by Nash designed to drop the lead with even less effort than most regular lead clip systems. I always cut down my lead clips when fishing in weed but these lead clips mean you don’t need to. The Nash Weed Safety Bolt Bead  used in conjunction with the  Nash Weed Safety Tail Rubbers  are basically a smaller version of the regular lead clip system which requires less force to discharge the lead and are ideal for fishing in weed. Recently Ian has landed a lot of carp using this clip system and it is without a doubt a factor that has helped him land more fish.

Give the Nash Weed Safety Bolt Bead and Tail Rubbers a thought next time you’re tackling a weedy water.

Another Common

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Have you noticed how many 30lb plus common carp are being reported to the Carp Catchers Blog? Anyhow customer Martin Deathridge fished an overnight session on Bluebell Lakes Swan lake recently and was rewarded with the 32lb 4oz common shown below. Using a new bait on test, Martin fished over light weed at 60 yards range. The rig Martin used consisted of a 12” Korda Supernatural Sinking Braid   hooklink tied to a size 6 ESP Stiff Rigger  hook. Martins hookbait was a snowman with a 10mm Hi-Viz Mainline Pop-Ups  topper. Nice result for an overnighter Martin.

More Rapala Lures Make An Entrance

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

We have had some more Rapala Lures delivered and again they look absolutely superb. In this blog we’ll look at the best way to use them.

Rapala Deep Tail Dancer Lure

The Rapala Deep Tail Dancer Lure is best trolled from a boat but can be cast from the bank. It is designed to go deep between 4.5 – 9 metres to really search out those big pike. The Deep Tail Dancers action can be greatly improved by using different boat speeds.

Rapala Minnow Rap Lure

The Rapala Minnow Rap can be either cast from the bank or trolled. To achieve the maximum depth (4.5m) use the thinnest line you can, braid if possible. Varying the retrieve can bring outstanding results.

Rapala Super Shad Rap Floating Lure

The Rapala Super Shad Rap Floating Lure will dive to about 1.5 metres, but is best fished just under the surface over weedy or shallow areas. It fishes best with a fairly slow retrieve, but varying the speed will impart different actions which may just give you that extra edge.

All the Rapala lures come in different colours and patterns giving you a range of options for differing light and weather conditons.

John

How To Tie A Chod Rig (Part 1)

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

The Chod rig is a setup that has over the years banked lots of fish, it works so well due to the hooklink being extremely stiff and its ability to be cast long distances without tangling. Another big advantage of The Chod Rig and the reason it got it’s present name is its ability to present a bait cleanly over a choddy bottom ie. weed, silt, leaves etc.

Part 1 will demonstrate how to set the leader and lead up using ESP components.

Step 1.

Splice the ESP Leadcore with a loop in one end and an ESP Clip link on the other. (See picture below)

Step 2.

Now slide on an ESP Helicopter rig sleeve and push it down to the clip link. (See Picture below)

Step 3.

Then thread on two 3-4mm lengths of 0.5mm ESP Silicon tubing. (See picture below)

Step 4.

Followed by two 5mm ESP Rubber Shock Beads  with an ESP Big Eye Swivel in the middle. (See picture below)

Step 5.

Now you need to decide on a lead, most people prefer a distance lead for this setup the lead shown is a grippa lead. Once you’ve choosen the lead, you need to remove the swivel with a pair of wire cutters or pliers. (See picture below)

Step 6.

Now clip the lead onto the clip link. (See picture below)

Step 7.

Then push the helicopter sleeve over the clip and loop at the top of the lead, slide one of the pieces of silicone down to just above the sleeve and push the first rubber shock bead over the top then position the other piece of silicone an inch above and do the same with the last rubber shock bead.

So far it should look like this.

The beads and swivel can be positioned at any point along the leadcore to compensate for depth of weed or silt.
