New Products – Korda Subline & Ace Velocity Leader Line

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

A couple of new lines this time. The Korda Subline  comes in translucent green or brown and is extremely tough supple and super heavy. This stuff sinks like a brick and comes of the spool with virtually no twist and has a very soft supple feel to it. If you fish slack lines and want a tough reliable line, Korda Subline may be the answer. For more information or to purchase please click on the above link. The  Ace Velocity Leader Line  is aimed at the angler fishing at distance. It features a high breaking strain leader end which tapers down to normal mainline i.e. 25lb leader end tapering to 10lb mainline. This means no more knots to catch and cause birdsnests. The Ace Velocity leader Line has the tapered leader at both ends, so when the leader gets a bit worn you just turn it round saving you money as well. How To – Solar Quick Change PVA System

Friday, January 15th, 2010

The Solar Quick Change PVA Bag System is ideal for anglers who use PVA bags for the majority of their angling. The system will ensure you don’t lose the bag on the cast while improving casting distance and accuracy. The system is designed to be anti tangle and works with any inline lead.

For the purpose of this demonstration I used a Korda Flat Pear Inline Lead, Solar Contour Super Supple Rig Tubing and Korda Size 8 Ring Swivels  was used between the helicopter beads for the rig to be attached to.

Step 1.

Thread your mainline through your desired length of the Solar rig tubing.

Step 2.

Now thread 1 of the beads provided with the Solar PVA System onto the rig tubing followed by the Korda Ring Swivel followed by another bead. If you’re using mainline straight through there is silicone tubing provided for the beads to the grip. If you’re using leadcore then please ensure all beads can be pulled free of the leader to ensure the lead will be lost in the event of your line breaking. Tie or loop your hooklink to the ring swivel.

Step 3.

Now thread on one of the sleeves provided and push the tubing securely inside.

Step 4.

Then gently push the insert out of your choosen inline……

…..and thread it onto your mainline.

Step 5.

Tie a Figure Of Eight Loop Knot  in the end of your mainline and attach the Solar quick change PVA bag clip like so.

Step 6.

Now pull the lead over the clip followed by the sleeve and rig tubing. The finished setup should look like this.

All you have to do to attach a PVA bag is to pull the clip out of the bottom of the lead and hook a PVA bag on before pulling the clip back inside the lead. Then just thread the hook through the mesh of the bag and your ready to cast out.

This set up is particularly well suited to adding freebies with the Mag Aligner Rig and really comes into it’s own during the winter months.

Give it a go.

How To Tie A Leader Knot (Part 1)

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Leader knots are used for tying leaders of any sort from your mainline, leaders can be used for shockleaders when casting long distances or spodding as at a higher breaking strain they will take the force of the cast without the risk of cracking off. Leaders are also used for certain fishing situation where they maybe required for their abrasion resistance.

The Leader material used in this part of the demostration is the 5olb Korda Arma Kord, which is a braided leader material.

Step 1.

Hold your mainline and the arma-kord running parallel with each other but with the ends in opposite hands. (See picture below)

Step 2.

Now with the braided Arma-kord form a loop alongside your mainline to begin the grinner knot. (See picture below)

Step 3.

Pass the end of the Arma-Kord round the mainline and through the loop 4 times. (See picture below)

Step 4.

Moisten the knot slightly a tighten it down slowly making sure its nice and neat. (See picture below)

Step 5.

Now repeat the process with your mainline, forming the loop then passing it round the Arma-Kord and through the loop 4 times, before moistening the knot a gently teasing it tight again making sure its neat. (See pictures below)

Step 6.

Gently tease the two knots until they are sitting tight together and trim the tag ends. (See picture below)

Your now ready to use the leader, you want the leader atleast 3 turns onto your spool with the knot at the bottom lip of the spool so it doesn’t snag when you cast.

Part 2 will show you how to tie another leader knot but this time with a nylon leader.
