Carp Fishing Tips – Add Some Salt!

Salt is often used by many anglers as an additive to particles and spod mixes. Although a lot of anglers don’t know why it is such a good addition to bait. Salt works well as an additive on many waters but it can be more effective on some waters than others. Now it isn’t completely understood why it works so well but I believe part of the reason it works is due to fishes requirements to regulate their salt and water content. Fish need to regulate the levels of water and mineral salts in their blood the same as we do, this is called osmoregulation. Freshwater fish absorb their required salts through their gills in exchange for waste products and through their food. By a combination of urine production and salt absorbtion fish can maintain their body’s salt concentration. Therefore the addition of salt to particles, boilies and spod mixes can be very effective when fishing for carp, especially in soft water areas where salt minerals in the water are scarce. One of the principle ions involved in osmoregulation include Sodium Chloride which is better known as Salt. So next time your preparing some bait for part of your baiting campaign or just for a forthcoming session grab some salt out the cupboard and add a generous handful to your mix.

We now have the Sticky Baits Bloodworm Range in stock now and it has been doing really well for some of our customers. The Sticky Baits Bloodworm Boilies contain both low temperature and soluble fishmeals, plenty of fresh bloodworm, blood plasma as well as a specially imported. To raise the attractor profile Robin Red and Paprika are also included at the optimal level. We have the bloodworm boilies in both Freezer and shelf life. To compliment the boilies we have the Sticky Baits Bloodworm Pop Ups and Sticky Baits Bloodworm Dumbells. For those of you that use sticks the Bloodworm Bag & Stick Mix contains much higher levels of the soluble ingredients than can be used in the boilies themselves resulting in really high levels of attraction around your hookbait. A word now on some new baits now in stock. The new Richworth XLR8 Freezer Boilies were developed from an original recipe from Steve Renyard which was a proven big carp catcher in the early 90′s. Steve has now tweaked it with some new ingredients and is 110% confident with it. They are a nice dark brown colour so they won’t spook wary carp. The XLR8 has a sausage/pepperami type smell and looks to be a real winner.We also have the Xlr8 Pop Ups and XLR8 Impact Boilie Dips in stock. The Richworth Salmon Supreme Freezer Boilies are one of Richworths original boilies from back in the day. New PB For Lea

Regular customer Lea Baverstock has just upped his personal best with the cracking common carp shown below. Lea’s common picked up his Mainline Cell Dumbell Hookers hookbait tipped with Enterprise Pop-Up Sweetcorn at 6.30am and took 10 minutes to land. It was caught from A1 Pits and weighed 26lb 8oz. Well done Lea !!

Preparing Hemp

This Carp Catchers Blog will show you how to prepare hemp. The fresher the hempseed the easier it is to prepare so try to make sure your supplier (if it’s not us) has a regular turnover.

The first step is to soak the hemp in water for 24-48 hrs. Make sure that there is plenty of water over the hemp as some of it will be absorbed by the seeds. Step 2 is to boil the hemp till the seeds split and a little white sprout appears, if you add a little salt to the water it helps to keep the seeds a nice shiny black. After cooking you can add any other flavourings or additives that you like, although it is more than adequate as it is. Once the water has cooled it ready to use or bag up as required. Make sure to keep the hemp in the water it was boiled in as this will contain all that lovely hemp oil. Also if the hemp dries out it will float!! Freezing is the best way to store your cooked hemp if you are not going to use it straight away. Here at Carp Catchers we do dry Mega Hempseed in 5kilo bags.For those that don’t want to prepare their own we also do our frozen ready prepared Mega Hempseed with maggots, casters plus added betaine. We also have Dynamite Baits Frenzied Hempseed and for PVA bagging TFG PVA Friendly Red Hot Chilli Hemp .

Single Hookbait Fishing Pt 2

Glugging or dipping single hookbaits can improve their pulling power and increase the chances of a run when no free offerings are available. Most pop-ups have a matching dip/liquid to go with them which can be used to soak hookbaits in for increased attraction. Although that doesn’t mean to say that hookbaits have to be soaked in matching dips, you could always try something different and mix hookbaits with different liquids. Try dipping or glugging your singles and see how your results improve. Two of the more popular dips are the Richworth Impact Boilie Dips and the Mainline Hookbait Enhancement System

Glugging or dipping baits can be messy business, there are items out there such as the Sixth Sense Stainless Steel Dipping Tool which makes the job far less messy.

Yet Another 30lb Plus Common

Shop regular John Jones banked a 3o plus common on a new water recently. The fished weighed in at 35lb 2oz and was a fish caught a month earlier by Ian Smith at a similar weight. John tempted the fish back to the bank with a mixed bed of sticky baits boilies and a snowman hookbait. The set up John used was a Korda 4oz lead on a Korda Safe Zone Safety Lead Clip and Johns’ rig was tied with Kryston Super Mantis Green Hooklink and a size 6 Nash Fang X Hook. Well done again mate. Nice photo too.
