One For Me

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Here’s a dumpy carp that I caught recently. It weighed 30lb 8oz and fell to my usual old skool D Rig tied with GLT No Can See Fluorocarbon  to a size 6 Gardner Longshank Incizor . I fished a clear spot in weed at about 60yrds and scattered a kilo of Mainline Activ-8 boilies over the spot.

Another One For Me

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Here’s a nice 35lb 2oz mirror carp I had recently. It led me a right dance as it got into a massive weed bed and even though the lead had dropped on the take I had to go out in the boat to free it. It was well hooked though and it was never going to come off. I used half a kilo of scattered 18mm Mainline Activ-8  boilies as bait and the hookbait was a snowman with a 10mm Mainline Hi Visual  Milky Toffee pop up. The rig was tied D rig style with a size 6 Gardner Longshank Incizor  hook  and a 30lb GLT No Can See Fluorocarbon Hooklink .

Two For Me

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Here’s a couple of nice mirror carp I had on a recent session. They weighed 19lb and 23lb 2oz respectively and were tempted from holes in the weed by Mainline Activ-8 boilies. I used a D Rig tied with 30lb GLT No Can See Fluorocarbon  and a size 6 Gardner Longshank Incizor  hook. I was able to land both fish from the bank in what is an extremely weedy swim by dropping the lead on the take using PVA’d Ace Lead Clips .

How To Tie Korda IQ Xtra Soft Fluorocarbon D-rig

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

The D-rig has many uses in carp fishing but the D-rig tied in this demonstration is best suited to a bottom bait, my chosen bait for this rig is a bunch of maggots tied onto the rig ring with bait floss.

The components used in the demonstration is the Korda IQ Xtra Soft Flourocarbon Hooklink with a Korda size 8 Wide Gape and a Korda Rig Ring.

Step 1.

Start by cutting a 10 inch length of the IQ hooklink, then attach the hook with a knotless knot leaving an inch above the hook. (See picture below)

Step 2.

Now slide a rig ring onto the IQ above the hook. (See picture below)

Step 3.

Then thread the IQ through the back of the eye to from a small D with the rig ring running on it, trim the excess and blob the end with a lighter being careful not burn yourself or the hooklink below the hook. (See pictures below)

Step 4.

Pull the rig ring gently so the blobbed end sits against the eye, it should look like this.

Step 5.

Now tie a figure of eight loop in the other end of the IQ and trim the tag end. (See picture below)

The finished rig should look like this.

Century NG Rods’ Christened By Lunker

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I recently christened my new Century NG Rods with this beauty of a lunker weighing 28lb 6oz. The fish came from a spot that I’ve been baiting regularly with good quality boilies throughout the year. My rig consisted of GLT No Can See fluorocarbon tied D rig style to a Gardner Longshank Incizor Hook, the hookbait was a snowman and was lodged well back in the fishes mouth. When I get a bit of time I will show those of you that don’t know how to tie the D rig.

Best fishes,

John
